Now didn't contact my previous provider (Sky!) to inform them I was moving to another provider.

Previously when I have changed broadband providers, the existing provider is contacted by the soon to be new one informing them of the change. This has not happened in my case costing me extra money as I have only just cancelled it myself. Is this common with Now & can I get my money back? Thanks in anticipation.
