Will a TP link or other generic router work as replacement for the NOW router or will the system only work on the supplied router ? TIA

@bluefox54 as per @Jayach you must make sure its compatable.
also it needs to be a router/modem the Now hub2 is a modem/router/wifi access point as well as a few other things these devies are often called Routers.
then there are devies that are just routers and so on .
To cut the confusion you need a device that can plug into the phone socket usually marked as DSL/VDSL etc , if you are unsure post the devie you intend to get here and then it can be checked to see if it may work

You don't say why you want to use a different router.
If it's just because of poor Wi-Fi or limited number of ethernet ports, you may find a second hand Sky SR203 router from the likes of eBay may be all you need.
