How can i get VAT receipts

I tried looking throught your site. Unfortunately despite wasting an hour I still cannot find your contact details, hence this post. 

Please can you advice me how can i get VAT receipts for the past payments ?

Nobody has ever conflated working from home with running a business from home as far as I am aware. If the employer wants to pay for their workers' broadband they should set up a separate service for them. Nobody can reclaim VAT from a domestic customer account.

The original wording in some T&C's weren't specific about working from home and business use, so have recently been updated to make it more obvious which is permitted and which not.

The relevant clause was, and as far as I know still is:-

The NOW Broadband and Calls services are for private domestic use by you and members of your household only and they should not be used for any activities not reasonably expected of someone using the services for domestic purposes (for example, for commercial or business purposes).

Dec 21. Quite late on within the COVID epidemic that has many of us working from home, but quite unequivocal that such is outside the Terms of Use,

But if you can point us to a restatement of this, in particular relating to WFH, then that would ease many minds.

@RoyB You have confused me (not for the first time!): are you suggesting that working from home is considered to be "for commercial or business purposes," or not?

I think the important thing is that "should not be used for any activities not reasonably expected of someone using the services for domestic purposes (for example, for commercial or business purposes)" is purposely vague, in that WFH is now considered a domestic usage.

Business or commercial would indicate that you are using it to make money.

WFH you are not directly making money, as you would be getting a salary.

If having broadband from home was part of your contract then the employer should provide it.

As an independent contractor with my own Ltd PSC, I both worked from home and ran my business from home. Not on Now Broadband, obviously, but equally not on a specialised business broadband account.

So it was my broadband to pay for, personally . And to reclaim both the expense and the VAT on my telephone and broadband bill pro-rata to my business use as distinct from my domestic use.

But the VATman is not interested, when I claim back the Input Tax, in what the service does or doesn’t claim to be, only in whether it is a VATable supply to me of something that I am using in my business, and I can demonstrate both that the supply is VATable (which is where the lack of Tax Invoices from Now falls down) and that I made business use of what I am claiming.

There are a few things that have special provisions (cars, property, etc) where people who are outside those trades can’t reclaim Input Tax, but broadband is not one of them.

As regards your second query, nobody working from home is carrying out domestic purposes, are they? So while I agree that WFH is now such a norm that Now shouldn’t be forbidding it, I might deprecate that they haven’t come out and clearly stated that.

Quite possibly eminently sensibly, because it might then place an obligation on Now to provide a business continuity level of service instead of a domestic one, as many people WFH and seeing their domestic broadband go down seem to expect.

If you are a VAT registered business you can reclaim VAT for business purposes. Working from home does not qualify as such.
