any ideas why

You could try NOW live chat to see if they can do some sort of Sports discount for you.

Might be worth a try.

Do you want the link to NOW live web chat?

I am assuming you don't have a current NOW Sports Membership (if so and paying full price, then try to cancel it to see if you are given a retention discount offer).

Tried chat it was an AI bot, no good at all. I don’t have sports right now and £21 was appealing whereas £34 is not yikes

Sounds like you got the 'Get help quicker' bot. Which IS not live chat. 

To get live chat you want to use the 'How to get in touch' drop down when signed in.

Don't use the auto chat bot by clicking on the get help quicker pop up, but click on the green chat online button towards the top of this link page below where it will get you through to a NOW representative (real person) via their web chat service (ignore the heading complaints where it will still get you through to NOW live chat).
