Getting diverted to a company regards internet connection that wanted fee payment

I went online for a broadband connection issue and was directed to another page which wanted me to pay subscription for advice how to fix problems. I feel i was directed to a untrustworthy site and considering changing supplier if i cannot trust Now broadband to monitor there own site.
