Connection drops

I’ve been with NowTV fibre for a while and whilst it’s mostly been great over the past month I seeing dropped connections 3/4 times a week. When I say disconnection I am referring to the WAN status on the router that says disconnected. Spoke to support who kept trying to troubleshoot wireless which isn’t related. The troubleshooter on the website says very thing is fine but I expect it’s not checking historical disconnects?

Is anyone else having or had similar issues?

Hi Tony,

No problem although I have the same reservations that the MTU won't help much but we'll give it a go.

I have 4 wired devices, not normally on at the same time and then around 6 devices on wireless.

I'll monitor and let you know how I get on.

Regards

Chris

Hi Tony,

Just had another drop so it appears that the MTU isn't helping us. I've just checked the diagnostic logs and see the following: -

Oct 7 20:17:51 syslog: Lease renewed 3600 ip 123.123.123.123(masked obviously)
Oct 7 20:24:25 syslog: [731107.139000] Line 0: VDSL2 link down
Oct 7 20:24:27 syslog: Clear IP addresses. IP connection DOWN.
Oct 7 20:24:27 syslog: [731109.432000] Line 0: xDSL G.994 training
Oct 7 20:24:42 syslog: [731124.453000] Line 0: VDSL G.993 started
Oct 7 20:24:56 syslog: [731138.122000] Line 0: VDSL2 link up, Bearer 0, us=9871, ds=39999
Oct 7 20:24:56 syslog: [731138.128000] Line 0: VDSL2 link up, Bearer 1, us=0, ds=0
Oct 7 20:25:57 syslog: ptm0.1 - WAN link UP.
Oct 7 20:25:57 syslog: Received valid DHCP lease from server. Connection UP.
Oct 7 20:25:57 syslog: Connection Up. SNO/MAC/IP/SWVER: [AC10161D038913/90210684FB38/123.123.123.123(masked obviously)/2.07.2355.R]

I'm not sure if the above helps or not? Looking back through the logs further, it appears to be trying to renew my IP every 10 minutes or so which seems like a ridiculously low renew time and is surely creating problems on the NowTV infrastructure if multiple customers are requesting a lease update every 10 minutes?

If you need anything else from me then please let me know

Regards

Chris

@Anonymous User Tbh Chris i'm still only half awake and looking at that gave me a sore head lol but from i gather. Could you use somehting like this https://www.noip.com/download?page=win to help maintain a solid address thoughout the network? I don't really know if this will help but i'm gonnasee if i can contact the guys who actaully came up with this infrastructure and see if they know anything about the extremely short renewal time.

Hi Tony,

I have already linked No-IP to my router using the free version which works but prompts every 30 days to keep it active which isn't a problem. I have also configured monitoring of my registered IP Address to see if it changes when the link drops but the router logs don't seem to indicate it's changed or at least as far back as I can go which is the 5th October but having at a drop on the 6th October, it certainly doesn't appear to be release my current IP which is what I would expect on most occasions.

Are there any other ideas on what my be going wrong?

Regards

Chris
