Week old Smart Box not working/having a paddy

Howdy.

My week old nowtv smart box has stopped working / is having a bit of a paddy.

It just cut off, then seemed to reboot itself before cutting off once more then loading up the animated nowtv screen - with balloons, popcorn etc - with the power light flashing like crazy all the while.

Thinking it was just updating or something, I left it alone for a little while but now it's just left a black screen, the power light is on and has stopped flashing and my tv is telling me there is no signal from 'the connected device'.

I have followed the troubleshooting guide, switched off, reset etc. Nothing. Not a sausage.

As I mentioned, I've only had the box direct from NowTv for barely a week.

Any assistance is most welcome.

Hi and welcome to the forum @Anonymous User,

All NOW TV and Roku boxes underwent 'maintenace' software update a few days ago. If your box is behaving odly then perhaps the following 'Help Centre' article may be of use to you: How to reset your NOW TV Box

Cheers

Thanks, but no joy with that.

The remote has no effect so cannot bring up settings to do a hard reset.

Tried another switch off/switch on but back to the animated screen & flashing power light again.

Are you using the smart box with the blue nowtv logo on the top casing?

Have you got a second TV in the house with a HDMI port ?

If so, some members had success by temporarily hooking up the smart box to a second TV letting the box complete the software update and then reconnect the smart box to their main TV where they was using the box.

Also suggest try a different HDMI cable if you can temporary connect to a different TV.

I know it doesn't make any logical sense, but worth a try.

@schnapps

It's the blue logo box.

No other tv with HDMI available, plus I've tried the cable swap. Spotted that on another posting.

I think this one has decided to become a brick.

It's a shame you haven't got a second TV to see if the smart box could complete the possible software update.

Sounds to me that the smart box is attempting to undertake a software update.

Unless nobody else comes up with some further suggestions or a fix, it looks like you may need a replacement under warranty Smiley Sad

Agreed... The previously mentioned software 'maintenace' update might have got corrupted. Which can happen from time to time.

I suggest you return your product to your original place of purchase and ask for a replacement...

Thanks guys. I'm on to Now TV now sorting a replacement, since I got it as part of a combo from them, however they're insisting on taking their time about replacing an obviously faulty box.

Been a week since I reported the failure of the box.

Claimed it had been 'escalated' to a 'specialist team'.

So far, diddly squat from the 'specialist team' despite a promise of contact within 48 hours.

This really is poor customer service.

All I get from the 'Help Team' to my requests for an update are the usual 'oh, we know it's frustrating' bllx.

I really should've listened to those who said to steer clear of NOW TV.

Come on NOW TV. Pull your bloody finger out!

A bit of a long shot, power down both TV and box, then try swapping the HDMI cable to a different port on your TV (if your TV has two or more ports) then switch back on TV select the correct HDMI source on your TV remote, then press the rest button underneath the smart box.

If you are using the standard black box then push and hold a pin in the reset hole on back of box until the initial setup screen reappears again on your TV.
