My normal monthly charge for all day telephone and broadband as recently been changed to around £26.50, now I have been charged £43.50, why?

It's a fixed rate for 12 months not lifetime. Sounds like you have went back to full retail price at the end of the 12 month discounted rate.
Make sure to be signed in and call the number to renew your contract.
