Fault developed on line during installation

Hi, my activation day was supposed to be the 27th with Now TV Broadband. The broadband with my old provider was working perfectly in the morning. Changed over the equipment to Now TV Broadband in the afternoon, no internet connection for rest of the day and have followed all troubleshooting advise.

Still no internet in the morning, called Now TV Broadband, who say there is a fault with the line and an engineer will be sent out at MY expense on Friday. So extra 3 day wait and extra cost to fix a line that worked fine on same day as activation. Can anyone explain this?
