Membership activation error

Anyone know what do about this hellish error loop? Purchased on iPhone (using an existing membership that previously worked fine) & then this happens continuously:

“Membership Activation pending

Purchase successful, but membership isn’t active yet. Check you have a good internet connection & try again.”

(Internet connection is excellent)

Found one thread about it, but looked inconclusive on a solution.

Try:-

Power cycling the iPhone.

Using mobile internet rather than WiFi, at least just to get things started.

Using another device on which you can get Now, again at least to get things started.
