Do you have a phone on your landline, which was not the case for the poster in that thread?
If you do, call your mobile from it, and see what number is shown.

As above as per @RoyB plug a phone into your phone socket and call a mobile.
I would recommend that you get a cheap corded ( not wireless/DECT) phone and keep that plugged in to use in an emergency , during a powercut mobile phone masts can stop working once their internal batteries have worn out, this means that your mobile will show no network coverage and it will be unable to go online or make calls an issue that I, and others in my area have had a few times recently.
Phone masts run for about 15-20 minutes during a powercut, powercuts have lasted for anywhere between a few minutes to 8 hours+
