Slow broadband

My broadband has been terrible lately, I’m on the fastest speeds available, the Now TV line test says 50mbps but through external speed tests it’s 18mbps. Everything is pixelated all the time and buffers.

Below are some standard things you can and probably have done before calling the team.

Have you done a factory reset to the router indicated in the link below?https://help.nowtv.com/article/improve-broadband-speed

This link also shows any planned outages as well wide spread faults.

You need to call the broadband team. See link for number.

FYI that I do not work for NOW, just a NOW customer trying to help

Thank you for the advice. Yes I followed all the troubleshooting advice, I found it baffling that line checks all came back fine and with such a high download speed when it’s barely working at all.

I think I will have to call in, thanks again.

Wifi speed and strength falls off the further away from the router you are, and this is particularly true of the Now router.

Now really should supply an Ethernet cable with each router so you can check your speed over a wired connection, as that is what they will ask you to do when investigating slow WiFi.

But your ‘guaranteed internet speed’ is measured at the router, not out in your home where all your WiFi devices are. Maybe it’s time for a more realistic measure, based on WiFi at a set distance from the router in free air, which would concentrate the minds of broadband suppliers on decent routers as well as the ‘sync speed’ that doesn’t hold up even over a few feet of free air?

Set a Payment PIN on your account so that no-one but you can buy memberships on it.
Check your bank accounts monthly for any other unexpected payments to Now.
That way you can at least nip them in the bud, while you and Now figure out whose fault they are.
