New Movies

Captain-America-The-Winter-Soldier-KA.jpg Frozen-KA.jpg Noah-KA.jpg The-Lego-Movie-1.jpg

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

It’s been two years since the events of Avengers Assemble, and Captain America continues to undertake missions with Black Widow. But when some old friends and foes from his past show up, he must go rogue…

Frozen

Does Frozen really need an introduction? We’ve all seen it (a few times….OK, like a 100 times) but we want to watch it over and over again. It’s a heart-warming, laugh-packed movie, where Anna and ice salesman Kristoff attempt to end the eternal winter and save Anna’s older sister, Princess Elsa.

Noah

After experiencing visions of an apocalyptic deluge, Noah starts building his famous ark. He’s desperate to save his family from the coming flood, but his nemesis Tubal-cain will do everything to stop him. A breath-taking drama starring Russell Crowe, Emma Watson and Anthony Hopkins.

The Lego Movie

Can an everyday man save the world? What if he’s small, yellow and made out of plastic? In The Lego Movie, Emmet is mistakenly chosen to lead the rebellion against evil President Business (you can’t not be a fan of that name!) with the help of Batman, Han Solo, Gandalf and many other Lego heroes.

Muppets-Most-Wanted-KA.jpg her.jpg the-book-thief-5279dd3def8e0.jpg winters-tale-52d992854e93d.jpg

Muppets Most Wanted

When the Muppets go on a world tour, Kermit finds himself in a Siberian Gulag, whilst his mastermind lookalike, Constantine, takes over the group, planning to carry out an evil plan to steal the Crown Jewels.

Her

Theodore is a lonely writer who develops a lovely relationship with an operating system. ‘Samantha’ is everything he could ask for in a woman, except for one thing: she isn’t real.

As creepy and weird as that might sound, Spike Jonze’s thought-provoking movie talks about relationships in an incredibly honest way.

The Book Thief

During World War II, Liesel is sent to live with new foster parents in a small village. Her foster father teaches her to read, and Liesel starts stealing books and sharing them with the Jewish refugee who’s sheltered in the basement by her foster parents.

A New York Winter’s Tale

Peter is an orphan and master-mechanic who attempts to rob a mansion on New York’s Upper West Side. He thinks the building is empty, but the daughter of the house is home. Peter soon falls in love with the wealthy heiress but, unfortunately, the beautiful Beverly is dying.

Returning Classics

AboutABoy-KA.jpg Airplane-KA.jpg american-history-x-1S.jpg Titanic-KA.jpg

About a Boy

Based on Nick Hornby’s bestselling novel, About a Boy follows Will, a rich and selfish guy living his perfectly pointless existence, when he meets Marcus, a lonely 12-year-old boy who might just teach him how to finally grow up.

Airplane!

When a plane’s crew fall ill, it’s up to Ted, the traumatised ex-pilot, to land the plane and save everyone on board. An absolute classic -  definitely the best movie choice if you plan to burn a Christmas dinner’s worth of calories just from laughing.

American History X

Edward Norton delivers a powerful performance as a neo-Nazi who’s just come out of prison to find his family  struggling, with his brother on a similar path filled with hate and anger. Controversial and gritty, American History X doesn’t pull any punches as it tackles the subject of racism. Utterly compelling viewing from the first minute until the incredible finale.

Titanic

Young aristocrat Rose falls in love with Jack, the poor artist she met on the Titanic. But their forbidden love story is only the tip of the iceberg… (Pun intended!)

But don’t worry, we have more Game of Thrones coming for you next year, so watch this space!

Top picks

I’m personally really looking forward to Her, which was one of my favourite movies this year, but The Book Thief also looks great. I also can’t wait to have classics like About a Boy and Airplane! Back, as well as the more serious American History X – all must-sees for sure.

I missed out on True Detective the first time, so it might be nice for a cold weekend as a little binge treat. I’m also super excited to see Olivia Kitteridge, which looks like an amazing mini-series with a main character who has some amazingly cynical lines such as: “I’m waiting for the dog to die so I can shoot myself.”
