Now have to pay for kids...why?!

We got Now tv about 1 month ago and have been really happy with it until today.

We weren't informed about the new Kids pass and I don't undetstand why we now have to pay for this pass. We bought a 6 month entertainment pass thinking this included the kids channels and now all of a sudden because you guys decided to upgrade the kids section we have to pay more again?!

I can understand having to pay for it seperately at the end of our existing 6 month pass but i think just taking away the kids channels with no option to keep our subscription to its current format (i.e. just the 3 channels as per before the update) is a bit out of order.

Maybe i've just missed something?

As a side note, your "contact us" section leaves alot to be desired. Seems a bit crazy that the only way to contact any support is via a forum.

I have just checked my e-mail and have seen at 1705hrs an offer for 4 months free trial for the kids t.v, this is more of what i expected with a company of this size.

However there was clearly an issue with communications as i have seen that i am not the only one who had this issue.

Thanks again

Welcome to the forum.

Just to check, you've been offered 4 months trial of the kids pass? Does that help you with your issue? The kids pass was advertised on the blog last month here

but I appreciate if you didn't see it that's not much help. We were also sent letters through the post informing us, but if you've only recently joined you probably missed the date they were posted. Hopefully you are happy with the resolution, but if not you can speak to live chat if you wish.

As a shortcut, to get there go to the following help page http://help.nowtv.com/contact-us/What-is-NOW-TV and click the Start Live Chat button.

NOW TV actually wrote to me by post to let me know of the changes.  This is in addition to emails, the blog post etc.

It's a thinly disguised price increase sold as an improvement. Kids app is free to Sky customers but not to Now TV customers even though Sky own Now TV. I guess they realised a lot of people were happy with Now TV and want to milk them for more money and with the planned money from TV licence fees for kids content being split with commercial providers it would be a no brainier. Remember David Cameron was at Murdichs Christmas party!

If you have the Entertainment Pass and Kids Pass every month, it's £9.98pm.  That's still cheaper than Sky, Virgin, TalkTalk TV and other providers.

You can bring down the cost even more by buying a three month Entertainment Pass.

@Anonymous User Remember, Sky is a contract with kids stuff already part of it whilst NOWTV isn't.

If they added all the new kids stuff to the entertainment pass, then that price would still rise to keep it up and running.

And then you'd get customers without kids who only watch the shows designed for adults complaning that they're subsidising the extra kids content on the Ent pass.

This way, the kids get their own customised part of the NOW TV app, shows and channels they didn't have before and less chance of a child finding something inappropriate elsewhere than they did until today.

@BicBasher Exactly, thank you!

@Anonymous User Yes but now there is extra programmes and channels to keep children entertained and not bored of the same stuff. It couldn't possiblly fit into the entertainment pack.

I don't see it as 'milking', I see it as providing extra content for a price that doesn't break the bank but I do understand some people's thoughts.

It's very easy to spend money on DVD's to entertain the kids, yet £2.99 extra for some parents isn't that much of an increase in the grand scale.

BT TV customers have the same channels, plus the Disney ones for £3, but is going up to £4.
