Loss of service - not so easy to get compensation

I had a fatal failure of line / broadband / tv last month that last 9 days. To get any compensation I had to call NOW TV , explain the situation and raise the topic of the money return". If I did not call I would be charged the usual fee. Also, I did not get any real compensation. A free voucher for some TV service would be nice and relevant I reckon. So there is actually no compensation for the loss of service. All I got was a refund of money they NOWTV could not charge as they were not providing the services.
