Speed

Any tips for my broadband - i just moved into my flat and ordered the NOWTV Boardband - its great in my living room - until my grandson puts his iPad on then i cant watch TV. i can only have one or the other on.  Which is frustrating - i cant go on my mobile either otherwise my TV just starts buffering.

My flat is tiny and i cant even watch TV in my bedroom because for whatever reason it dont reach my bedroom which is like 15 foot from the living room.

Any tips to get this sorted as something clearly isnt right?  I done a line test and they say theres nothing wrong it with so now what?

How long have you been a broadband customer for?

The speed will fluctuate within the first 10 days.

Are you able to connect the TV with Ethernet?

You could try splitting the bands indicated in the below link.

FYI that I do not work for NOW, just a NOW customer trying to help

Which Now Broadband product have you bought, and what speed are you getting?

The choice of a third party router depends on this.

When you say the TV can’t find the WiFi, you do have a smart TV? What make and model is it?

The Firestick may have offered you a choice of WiFi connections, depending on what it has detected, though only one of these will be correct for you, which is no doubt what you and your grandson have connected to.

Are the TV, the Firestick, your mobile and the iPad all detecting the same number of WiFi services, and all the same ones, or do these differ?

I know about the short WiFi range of the Now router, as indeed it is a well-known thing, and I know about contention between devices; but with the buffering on your TV (strictly, buffering on the Firestick I presume?) is this on lots of streaming services, e.g. the BBC iPlayer, or just on Now itself?

It will also be helpful if, on each device, you enter a site called fast.com in the browser (the Firestick offers the Silk browser under ‘internet’ when you view ‘All Apps’ by clicking left from the first entry on the Apps row) and see what speed is reported on each device. Nothing to configure, set, log in to or pay for there, it’s very straightforward.

Set a Payment PIN on your account so that no-one but you can buy memberships on it.
Check your bank accounts monthly for any other unexpected payments to Now.
That way you can at least nip them in the bud, while you and Now figure out whose fault they are.

This could be a wifi issue as opposed to speed, the now router while it seems to work for some, doesnt work for others .

My suggestion, in addition to the above would be to download an app called wifi anylyzer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&hl=en&gl=UK

which you can use to test wifi signal strength, as well as see other wifi networks and what channel they are on - and in turn set your router to use a less congested channel

Additionaly, Wifi devices such as your Now Hub do not like to be behind TVs, tucked away in cupboards, near fish tanks microwaves etc ( all of which will degrade the wifi signal) also try and keep it away from window ledges as well .

try and put it as central as possible  not that easy as it needs to be wired to the phone master socket, and as high as possible- that is not on the floor under the TV

If the above doesnt work, then you may be looking at getting your own router to use with Now

Thanks its not tucked away  its on its own little shelf - but it is annoying that i have to go out and get another router - ive only had this router since 31st of March but not being able to watch tv when my grandson is on the ipad is soooo annoying lol so if a new router will fix it ill buy it - although not sure how that works? any router will just pick up my wifi? confused dot com
