installation date set to july

I just ordered broadband for the new flat i'm moving into next week (May 6th) but I didn't realised the engineer visit is booked for July 11th (not May 11th).

The landlord said the previous tenant had broadband so she knows there's a phone-line (BT line) in the property already.  Is the engineer just doing some software related work (like activation) or are they physically installing something?

Can I assume that once the router arrives, I should be able to plug it in and it work straight away?

If not, is there a way to move that engineer visit forward (ie sooner)?

I never had an engineer when I got my broadband with them all I had to do is plug the router in and wait for them at the other end to switch my broadband on.

Maybe you should try and get in touch with them and see why you need an engineer.

for anyone following along: i had to call support.

they are still working but the wait times are long. (20-30 minutes)

the engineer needs to come and fix the line - which has a fault on it.

i can try plugging in the router and, if i'm lucky, it might give me a slow/partial connection that i can use until the engineer comes to fix the line.

otherwise it'll be a dead line and i have to wait.
