Think it depends if your property has an active OpenReach socket.

You might not need an engineer visit if there's already an active phone line and socket at your address. In this case, we can usually switch the phone line remotely.
We'll let you know if you need an engineer visit when you sign up for NOW Broadband Membership, and give you a time and date.
Even if you have a phone socket in your home, you might still need an engineer visit to get your line up and running.
An Openreach engineer will install your new phone line. Openreach are responsible for the UK’s communications access network, including the physical phone line that we use to supply NOW Broadband.
The engineer will install one master phone socket at your address.
If I were you, give the broadband team a call in the morning for a peace of mind.

If you have a BT/Openreach phone connection in your home, I can see no reason why you shouldn't connect it any time you like. You may not even get an engineer to your home, if Now/Openreach believe you have a functional connection. It won't work until the engineer completes the connection at the exchange/cabinet.
If you currently do not have a BT/Openreach socket, then the Openreach engineer will fit one, in that case leave it all to them.
