Wifi Signal

Short ... long story
My router is downstairs in the living room
Downstairs...i can stream , download , upload with no problem at all.
Going upstairs my room ( above living room )
Streaming , download , upload ..REALLY BAD
Things i did myself :
1. Got wifi repeater , booster .......same thing
2. Got powerline adapters ........same thing
Upstairs signal suck big time
My guess :
The wall between living room and my room is thick or whatever that signal dont go thru at all.
My last option is ( from what i can think of ) :
Drill a hole between my room and living room and have a ethernet cable connected to router downstairs and upstairs ( i do have a wifi repeater that can be made a acces point ) then connect it to the acces point in my room ...........

Does anyone have a better suggestion or solution at all ?

Hi @Anonymous User

Out of curisoity are you using the NowTV Hub 1 or newer Hub 2 Router ?

I am guessing who have tried different WiFi channels in the Hub setting ?

Surprised the powerline adaptors over Ethernet didn't improve things (what make and model did you try) ?

Hi @Anonymous User

Missed the bit on your post that you change the wifi band from 5ghz to 2.4ghz, therefore I am assuming you have the Hub 2 Router.

@Anonymous User you might find it useful to download a WiFi analyser app that tells you what internet is on which WiFi channel and which are most clogged. You can then chose a less clogged on.

I am not a broadband customer with Now TV. All I can say is to call the broadband team, 0800 free from number on the link below.

https://help.nowtv.com/article/how-to-submit-a-broadband-complaint1

It could be an issue with the router. This link may or not be useful.

FYI that I do not work for NOW, just a NOW customer trying to help

My golden rule has been with any new ISP supplied router ....

1) switch off the wifi so that memory/performance is left to the routing side of things only

2) get a cheap router of ebay or use an existing working wifi router, and put it next to the main router with one network cable going between them

3) switch it on (with network cable disconnected)  and connect to its wifi connection, login in to it and do the following.....

                 i) turn its dhcp server off

ii) give it a static ip address on the same network as the main router

ii) put the cable back in

Never looked back, everytime I changed ISP, just plugged in the new router, switched of its wifi knowing that i will not have any wifi problems ever again or have to change wifi settings everywhere 🙂

PS Also helps to narrow down that any performance drop/increase is due to the new ISP !!
