Wifi Router not near PC, how to set up an ethernet connection?

Hello,

We have just set up our NOWTV broadband router (type2) and originally set it up in the office next to the computer where the previous (utility warehouse) router was. This worked but could only access internet in that one room, the signal strength was too weak, so we relocated it to where the 'master outlet' is, in the downstairs hallway. We can now get wifi throughout the house but it is very weak on the computer upstairs, is there a way to set up an ethernet connection there without being near the router?

We also have an old powerline adapter which we used to use downstairs, but we don't know how to set it up again.

Please help,

Lily.

Hi @Anonymous User

Two powerline adapters should work, one plugged close to the Router and the second next close to the PC.

You will need to make sure that both powerline adapters are connected to the same electrical distribution box circuit (just in case you have more one electrical mains distribution box at your property).

Once on the same electrical distribution box wiring circuit, i would factory reset your powerline Ethernet adapters (if you haven't got the manual instructions for the powerline adapters then maybe try a Google search for the information).

Once setup and if you have no joy then maybe the power adapters only work on 100MB rather than Gigabits.

Where you need to go into the NowTV Hub 2 webpage settings (type 192.168.0.1 in the url address bar of your internet browser).

When the NowTV webpage opens, select Ethernet tab, then if prompted use admin & nowtv for the username & password.

Select "Fast Ethernet" and click the green Apply button towards the bottom of the screen.
