Hi welcome to the fourm.

As Openreach provide our lines, this is the time frame we give to all our customers most providers (apart from virgin) have this time frame, to keep everything in check with the exchanges and ports your Internet is going to.

Exchange side lines though are in pressurised ducts so it takes alot of work to open them up. Also Exchange side cables can go upwards of 3600 pairs and jointing them can be complex and extremely time consuming. Openreach need to be contacted in advance to scedule each individual home with Broadband and Talk lines, even if you already have a line, the line is being swapped into another port if you switch provider and there is a list of other people waiting hence we cannot pirotise customers that easily ( as much as we would all like to )

Just thought that in the 21st century you would click your fingers, press a button and then be online?

But if what you say is true with regards to openreach this means that they are always 2 weeks behind... if they got all their engineers to work longer shifts for a few weeks to catch up with the 2 week backlog then each day they wake up they could twiddle the wires for the customers who purchased the service the day before ! Hey that’s an efficient idea 😉

And I assume that there isn’t exactly a massive surge at any one particular month to get connected. It’s not like openreach have a 2 month holiday in January ?

It’s a bit like the wait for A&E, it’s always several hours but you always get seen. Imagine if it was a one in one out system. Ohhh I dream of the perfect efficient world.
