TP Link modem working on ADSL? (dont have VDSL)

I keep finding suggestions about how TP Link modems works with NowTv, however all the articles on this forum are about VDSL (fibre).

This article is about VDSL: https://kevq.uk/how-to-use-a-tp-link-router-with-sky-fibre-optic/ and assumes that I select Sky(MER)_VDSL from the ISP list. I dont have VDSL on my connection and only ADSL.

Another good and long thread is here: https://community.nowtv.com/t5/Account-and-Billing-Broadband/username-and-password-for-vdsl-settings... but this again for VDSL.

I am on ADSL, and need some assistance in how I can use my own TP-Link VR400 modem, instead of the NowTv modem.

Has anyone connected their own third party modem with NowTv on their ADSL connection yet? If so I hope someone can assist me. Do I need to use wireshark to get the correct user/pass (since random user/pass doesnt work)?

Have you actually tried with the Sky(MER)_VDSL setting? The setting is about the authentication method, I would have expected the modem to sort out the VDSL/ADSL as most work on both.

Also when swapping modems/router on Sky/Now it can take a while for the new one to be recognised. Try leaving it on overnight before assuming it hasn't worked.

Yes I did try the Sky MER settings, I tried, re-tried and re-re-tried. It fails authentication, and I can see on the router logs that handshake authentication is failing. Why it fails authentication it does not say, but I suspect it is due to the VDSL settings, rather than user/pass.

and on the tp link forums here : https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/264802  ( you may need to start a separate thread)

If you are on ADSL, you should use PPPoE, not DHCP/MER.

If MER log in is used for ADSL the the process should be the same.

have you tried it?
