Poor WiFi Signal In Rooms Away From the Hub 2

I’ve just joined nowtv broadband and my experience is not good. The hub doesn’t give good coverage whereas as my sky,bt have. The issue is with the hub and nothing else it works fine if your close to it. I cannot even play Netflix, PS4 in bedrooms upstairs as it doesn’t even show up and my house is small. I’ve called now broadband and went through channel switching and placement of hub( which I already now where the best place is FYI considering all the companies I’ve been with no problems)  which didn’t improve anything. WiFi extenders/boasters don’t work. It makes it worse in my house as I guess the furthest point in the house isn’t far enough and close to the hub. And to get through to technical support is another battle, their wait time isn’t what it says. it will say for example 9mins when it’s literally double that, I timed it last night. It seems they can cut their waiting times in half or more if they make a decent hub and unfortunately it will be at least 2 years before they realise this. I’ve put a switch to virgin on. Still have to live with no Netflix and PS4 for about 2 weeks and nowtv advisor wasn’t interested in helping much after he saw the port request. The poor WiFi coverage echos on the internet.

Just joined NowTv from plsnet. Wish I had seen these posts before I signed up. Two years (nearly) later and nothing has changed. Signal only reaches half the house now, compared to plusnet. Still it is half the price of plusnet. Maybe thats why. 😕

Have a TV sat maybe 1 meter away from the router, it gets 2 bars out of 5, these nowTV Hub routers are attrocious, my phone in wifi tethering mode has better range. And 2 ethernet ports... Really? Did they get these things out of McDonalds happy meals?

Thankfully I already have my own router to replace it with, but god damn these things are bad. I'd be fuming if I was relying on this router.

2.25 years from original post and still the same problem! As previously commented, I wish I'd seen these posts before signing up. I spoke to a very understanding lady in technical and, despite following advice about changing the 2.4GHz channel and splitting the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies, there was absolutely no improvement. Nowtv's solution, as commented before, is a £15 credit to offset the cost of getting a signal booster - something like a TP-Link Powerline Extender Kit. Okay, it's going to cost a fair bit more than that but my view is that Nowtv broadband is reasonably priced (and the actual broadband speed is pretty good) so I'll bite the bullet and get this TP-Link equipment and I'll then be set up for the future so whatever router I get from whoever I switch to can be equally as rubbish but it won't matter. One more problem I won't have to spend time worrying about!

This should not happen nowadays!

Received a 2 LAN port substandard modem router with pathetic wifi signals. Using a power LAN in 1 port and bought a BT wifi extender to plug into the remaining LAN port. Wifi extender cannot connect to internet... Tried both ports and its just the same! I know the Wifi extenders work because I tried it with a vodafone modem router.

Reported to support and they sent a replacement modem router with exactly the same issue!

Cannot believe they supply such substandard equipment. Leaving as soon as possible.

Hi @Anonymous User

I don't use any wifi extenders or boosters over Ethernet on my NowTV Hub 2 Router, but have you tried going into the Router webpage settings (type 192.168.0.1 in your url internet browser) and when prompted use admin & nowtv has the username & password.

Then go into the Ethernet tab option settings and change to "Fast Ethernet" then click the green Apply button.

Don't know if it will have any bearing on your wifi extenders, but worth trying it if you haven't done this already.

Thanks so much! That worked!

Surprising why the gigabit setting prevented the WiFi extender from connecting to Internet.
