Nowhere to plug phone in with NOW Hub 2

Just set up new router (hub 2). When I used filter/splitter with previous hub I plugged the phone into the top of the socket as the connector is the same size as the DSL connector, and the filter/splitter into the bottom socket (which normal ‘inphone’ connector would go into), then the DSL into the filter.
New hub wouldn’t work like this and rang NOW who couldn’t detect a line and told me I need an engineer, coming next week. I was about to put previous hub back and then took filter off and just plugged router straight into top socket. Worked immediately.

Problem of router sorted but now have nowhere to plug in phone (landline).

Can anyone tell me why previous router worked with the phone plugged in as described above and DSL via filter, but doesn’t work with this new router set up?
Also can anyone suggest how to plug in my landline? It doesn’t fit into anything other than the size the DSL goes into.
Apologies for long and convoluted post and thank you for reading.

OMG, you have a pre-filtered socket. I can't believe it worked before. DSL is the top socket, the phone plugs in the bottom one, your phone has the wrong cable.

The cable on your phone should have a small connector which plugs into the base unit and a larger one which plugs into the lower port on your master socket.

Hello! Unfortunately it just has this connector on both ends

Which one?

Yes, but it shouldn't. It has either been changed at some time (probably to be used with digital voice on another ISP) or it is not UK spec.

This is another case where a photo would come in handy from @Spaceyanne
