New broadband user

NOW broadband went live this morning, dropped BT after years of hassle.

It seems my BT TV box (non subscription) wont talk to the  NOW router? I only use the BT box for pausing live TV and recording.  Is that now scrap!

Hi @Bazeus

If you are referring to no internet connection on the BT Youview box, then I am assuming it's the BT Youview box that runs over Ethernet and doesn't offer Wi-Fi (unless you have snagged the newer BT Pro Box somehow ?).

If it only runs over Ethernet it should be plug and play into your NOW Router.

Perhaps try wiring up the Ethernet cable again and try the second Ethernet port on the back of the NOW Router.

Also if you have a spare Ethernet cable try that as well with everything switched off when fitting the cable.

There is a setting in the NOW Router to change from Gigibit to Fast Ethernet, but I left my NOW Router on the default Gigabit setting and everything worked from day one for me.

Hi @Bazeus

I have a BT Youview Box and also have NOW Broadband with no problems using the BT Box over internet.

Are you having internet connection problems or are you taking about the main TV Guide, where you won't be able to watch or record from the live TV Guide with regards to NOW content and need to use the NOW App from the BT Youview box instead (where the NOW App on the BT Youview box doesn't offer live recordings or live pause on a Youview box through the App).

I only recently bouht the BT pro box hoping it would remedy an issue, it didnt and i have now kicked BT into touch. A useless organisation imo.

Hi @Bazeus

Are you trying to use the BT Pro Box over WiFi or Ethernet with the NOW Router ?

Is the NOW Router working over internet with the BT Pro Box or not with Apps etc ?

Out of curiosity what was the issue that you thought the BT Pro Box would remedy ?

To complicate matters, im abroad so my wife is dealing with this. Now broadband  is up and running this morning but im told the BT pro box wont connect to it.

The issue was out of contract  "no help" from BT. The pro box is good and wasnt cheap but apparently won't communicate with the new router.  Should it be relevant we have to use Netgear power line adaptor gizmos. Wife has pressed the reset on both and is waiting.

Hi @Bazeus

If using power line adapters over Ethernet, then I would try unplugging the power to both the NOW Router and BT Youview box, then reset the Netgear powerline adaptors (perhaps see if you can find an online manual how to reset the Netgear and setup from scratch).

Then power back up the NOW Router and BT Youview box to see if a connection is made (assuming the Ethernet cable is plugged into the back of the NOW Router from it's local power line adapter).

I am assuming Wi-Fi is out of the question, because you are using a set of power line adapters over Ethernet with the BT Youview box because of the Wi-Fi signal coverage issue in your home where the BT Youview box is located ?
