New Phone Line or existing one.

Hey all.

I'm moving into a rented property in 3 weeks. Viewed it today and saw theres a phone line into the house. House has lay empty for months.

When I sign up for broadband and select new line, does that require the engineer to come in and do any work or are they just at the signal box?

Also what is the early termination fee? Landlord will only give 6 months at a time as he may sell in the future...

Many thanks.

Re the line, it is quite impossible for anyone to say until Openreach have inspected it. If it is a modern Master Socket and a cable in good order back to the cabinet, they may be able to set it up entirely remotely. If not, they will want to attend the premises.

As regards early termination, Google leads us to:-

I’ll let you do the maths for your particular situation.

If you don’t like the numbers, remember that even if you move out after six months, you may need broadband wherever you are going, and so can move it with you rather than terminate it.

Or you might want to opt for Now’s ‘no contract’ month by month broadband; more expensive for a year, but maybe cheaper overall for six months.

Again, I’ll let you do the maths; and remember, all the info you need can be found in the Now Help, accessible, usually, via a natural language query.

Happy hunting!

Set a Payment PIN on your account so that no-one but you can buy memberships on it.
Check your bank accounts monthly for any other unexpected payments to Now.
That way you can at least nip them in the bud, while you and Now figure out whose fault they are.
