NOW TV Broadband Firewalls

I have just switched to NOW TV Broadband and have a Home Server the hold my photos, music, tv shows and movies.

However I could only access these files if I disabled the Public Firewall on my home server.  Is this safe?  The Domain and Private ones are still enabled, its just the public I had to disable to be able to either remote to the server or access my shows via Plex etc....

Any one come across this before?

OK quick update that gives me a warmer feeling.  Switch my home network settings to private and re-enabled the public firewall, but had to disable the private one.  I feel better but still need to confirm this is necessary.
