My broadband had been playing up for a few days, dropping connectivity etc. before completely packing up on Thursday. I’ve still got no service so called Now and was told it’s an Openreach problem in my area that is affecting everyone, not just Now customers, but all of my neighbours are still online!

You need to keep calling the broadband team until it’s sorted.
Are you in a FTTP area? Or just FTTC?
If it’s the former then some might be on FTTP which won’t be affected by FTTC issues.
