"Sorry, something went wrong" Error and Other Outstanding Issues

Hi,

We have numerous issues with NowTV using a Roku Express 3900EU device - we have 3 of them with the same issues - it can't be us.

We have a good solid fibre connect which is never overloaded, other streaming services have no issues, even 4K content.

Here's the issues we have currently:

1) "Sorry, something went wrong" Error

This is happening on a regular basis, more so the last week or so. This evening it occured 4 times in one hour, making it no fun trying to watch a movie or anything else.

e.g.

7.33pm 24th June
7.43pm 24th June
7.45pm 24th June
8.00pm 24th June

Each time we have to press "OK" and restart the movie or program, usually while loosing the place we were at, great!

We contacted NowTV Chat yesterday - not great help at all as they speak very little English and now very little about what to do - after taking all our details and asking to essetially turn the device on oand off, this took up 30 minutes. Then we had to contend with being cut off several times and had to restart the whole conversation. We finally received an email with a reference number yesterday at 6.12pm. We supplied a photo of the error on screen to help the technical team who apparently it has been passed on to.

We appear though to be getting nowhere trying to sort technical issues with NowTV generally, so we don't have high hopes for this either. We've talked on Chat several times, which so far has been no help, been given a reference number for Technical, but over 24 hours, still no reply to help us. This is just the tip of the iceberg as you'll see.

We reset our Router as requested, but naturally this didn'tt help - we have 3 of the same devices with the same issues. Althought we don't think it is the fault of our Roku sticks, as we have other issues as listed below.

2) Programme Progress is not being saved/remembered

Whether it is Movies, Entertainment or Kids passes. Watching a programme for the first time, if you pause it and exit the NowTV app, when returning typically it has not registered that we attempted to watch the programme at all.

But, the second time we start the programme it is remembered. However, each time a programme is paused and you quit the app, when you restart the programme, it is always 5 to 10 minutes behind.

We spoke to NowTV about this over a year ago and we received emails asking for more information which we gave. Such as times and dates and which programme. Easy as this happens on all programmes. but after a month or so, the emails dried up and no more replies. Then we received another email around Christmas time (2018) saying the case was still open, we responded, but then haven't heard antything since. Crazy!

3) Unable to Pause, Rewind or Fast Forward Pogrammes

Quite often the adverts that show NowTV content at the beginning of a movie or series fail to appear. When this happens you are unable to Pause, Rewind or Fast Forward the programme. You then have to exit the programme and start it again. For us though, all our progress is lost and we have to fast forward to where we left off. Worse than VHS cassettes!

4) Recently Added Movies content isn't in added order anymore

This has been a common occurance over the years with NowTV, every so often the Recently Added Movies list goes out of its added order. The movies are all over the place. Any new movies that appear, could be anywhere, not at the top of the list as is normal. This also happens to the NowTV Android App at the same time. Usually this is rectified after a few days, but it's been going on for several weeks now. Doesn't anyone check these things?

All this poor service and we are still using NowTV, although we do have Netflix which is usually flawless in comparrision.

Is anyone going to help, or should we just give up with NowTV?

After filling our a recent survey for NowTV which was full of questions about how we might prefer adverts for products on NowTV or pay extra to remove them, I can see which way this is going to go sadly.

Jay.

Hi @Anonymous User

You would be surprised what can happen in a single environment, and you do rather have a catalogue of woes that I haven’t seen elsewhere on the Community, except perhaps one or two in isolation.

I’m not saying it’s what happened, but if your router, which you have rebooted, had been firing malformed packets out earlier, it could easily have hit the same vulnerability in each of your three identical Roku Sticks in turn, and made them go off the rails a bit.

So I would suggest you take one of them, to begin with, and reset it. If it’s anything like the NowTV Stick, there’s a little button halfway along one of the narrow sides, and you hold this in for 15 seconds, while the Stick is powered, and it will reset itself. Or if not quite this, it will be in the Roku instructions.

If that Stick then starts behaving itself, you know it will likely be worth doing the same on the other two.

Set a Payment PIN on your account so that no-one but you can buy memberships on it.
Check your bank accounts monthly for any other unexpected payments to Now.
That way you can at least nip them in the bud, while you and Now figure out whose fault they are.
