Update Now TV app for apple TV

Will the Now TV app for Apple TV ever get an update?

The current version is complete rubbish and makes me regret ever getting a Now TV pass.

Unless there is an update my Now TV experience will be very short indeed.

No chance, surely. The ‘new’ app has done away with all the useful native capability (eg. skip 10 secs).

Agreed.

Although the old app didn't support 5.1 the new one STILL doesn't.. and I just can't fathom why it flat out *CANT* when every other app on the platform manages the now ancient 5.1 abilities...

Also, anyone notice the email came today and they said its discontinued from.... TODAY... 27th.  Nice bit of notice there Now, eh.

Please pull your finger out and make the AppleTV app useable for boost subscribers and then you can take away dusty old apps.  Thanks.

@nst Your clock’s wrong.  Today is APRIL 27, and the app will be  discontinued on MAY 27. So you have 30 days notice, which is more than fair.

Whilst I agree that the NOW app on Apple TV but not all other devices that support Boost and 5.1

The Player for PC/laptop for instance, which of course can be hooked up to a TV.

https://help.nowtv.com/article/what-is-now-boost

No. Boost isn't available on any of the following devices that you can watch NOW on:

  • PC/Mac
  • iOS or Android mobile devices
  • Roku devices other than Roku Express or Roku Streaming Stick
  • Apple TV 2nd or 3rd generation
  • Chromecast 1st or 2nd generation.

oops, @Duncaw67 @Saint1976 @Mark_Weinreb

.. and whoever else will point out my stupidity!

Yes you are right.  my brain saw 27th and I assumed it was today - wouldn't have put it past them.

I stopped using that app a long time ago and in fact have stopped using appleTV until they sort 5.1 although reading their 'help' it does again emphatically state the new App on the AppleTV is NOT 5.1.

why....?  why????? why???????????????? how hard can it be?!?!!

@gavs82008

These devices are hardly comparable to a current generation (popular?!) set top box solution.

They are old, and not supported - and PCs and iOS/mobile devices hardly need boost and 5.1

I remain aghast at the omission and the fact that they seem content to leave 5.1 off a platform that is more than capable and have left this unfixed for coming up to 6 months now.

I am VERY happy to see the TV app integration and that's made a significant change to the usefulness of the service to me... far easier to keep track of a watch list when its unified in the TV app... but I still have to resort to the fire stick to actually watch the content (in 5.1)

@nst

Totally take your point, a very large majority of people will have a current model of TV or set up box capable of running the NOW and all it’s Boost features.

That being said, I do know some folk that prefer using their laptop/pc hooked up via HDMI to the TV and streaming everything from there.

Have to admit I did find it very odd with the introduction of Boost on Apple TV but somehow not including 5.1, definitely defeated the purpose to get 1080p but no 5.1!

Rumours flying around the place that Apple TV is going to be added to Sky Q but no date confirmed assuming talks are still ongoing. Can only assume when that is official we can only hope that Apple TV’s will get the fully functioning NOW app with ALL features!

There is no way I am using the new app when the old app remains superior in
terms of having Picture in Picture, an easy way to scrub backwards and
forwards by 10 seconds (with the Apple TV touch pad) and voice search.

It’s Kodi time for me then. At least NOW TV have got me adjusted to stereo
sound and a murky a 720p picture, and in most cases no subtitles.

You are aware that the old NOW app will be removed on the 27th May?

I know, Which is why I have just cancelled my now TV cinema pass (I had 5
months left for £5.99) and I gave NowTV the below reason for leaving.

“ Because you are getting rid of the old NOW TV app on the Apple 4K box.
This old app has support for Picture in Picture, an easy way to skip
Backwards and forwards on the Apple TV trackpad and Voice search support.

I simply do not want to use the new app as all the above features are
missing from it. It is time now for me to get my content via Kodi unless
the new app has native support for the Apple TV user interface. Thankfully
NowTV has got me accustomed to poor sound & poor picture quality So I doubt
I will notice the difference.

I completely agree with you, I will probably be cancelling my sub too. The new app is unusable as it is... 😞

I think unusable is going a bit overboard, I use it everyday just fine. Also I think now we have seen integration with the Apple TV app they are almost certainly working on the features people want and they will be introduced soon

I totally agree,Apple tv is the best streaming box out there IMHO and once they sort out 5.1 surround sound for people who want to use it and,the best picture quality on most of the main apps, especially Eurosport Player, absolutely brill.

It might seem overboard, but for me, the remote is unresponsive, fails to pause and fast forwarding / rewinding is a mess. On top of that, I like pausing some programmes to take time to look at the pictures / content, but now a massive portion of the screen is taken by overlay... Making it unusable for me.

I don’t think they care what we think as I as well as others fed pretty much all the negative stuff back during the ‘trial’, plus you’d hope they’d also be looking at this forum for feedback.

Shame as if the app was good, complete rewrite, I’d likely regularly pay for the entertainment pass. But it’s so bad that if I hear of a good show I wait for the whole box set to be available and pay for one month. So they are saving me money!

@Anonymous User If you’re talking about the Apple TV remote, then the good news is that Apple are releasing a new remote with a jog wheel replacing that somewhat unresponsive touchpad. It will be available to pre-order from Apple tomorrow (30 April) and will ship mid-may. It can’t be any worse than the current one.

@MrZippy

It will be up to the users taking part in the trials to relate any feedback to the Trials inbox with NOW.

As for the current app, why would NOW focus on a forum page for feedback? Any feedback, good and bad should be sent direct to NOW customer support.

On a forum like everything else will get lost in the shuffle.

It’s not the remote that’s unresponsive, it’s the app. You can tap left and right on the remote and it behaves better. I suspect they are not using native UI elements, made obviously but the other visual issues.

Yes, I realise it's the app, I love the remote (though looking forward to the new one coming next month).

Sadly I expect the app will not respond to the jog wheel as expected 😞
