Will the Now TV app for Apple TV ever get an update?
The current version is complete rubbish and makes me regret ever getting a Now TV pass.
Unless there is an update my Now TV experience will be very short indeed.
Just sent a tweet to nowtv asking what the situation is regarding the nowtv app for apple tv. I will wait for a response If I feel the response is not satisfactory I will contact media outlets such as bbcwatchdog. So if u have twitter or Facebook send them a message asking what's going on.
The point I would make is this:
On NowTV's 'Devices' page... it clearly mentions you can watch on over 60 devices.
The AppleTV is of course listed in that page. You can click on it and then you are taken to the page to chose your package.
NOW.... there is NO mention that if you are watching on an AppleTV will get a significantly inferior service to that of other devices. This should be made very clear. For example "Please note that the AppleTV app is over 4 years old without updates and you are not able to create watchlists and other functions using this device"...
This is what they should say... and of course some could be signing up and disappointed at the functionality and service they receive.
Not a bad reason for a formal complaint, and passing to the ombudsman if there is one that NowTV recognise.
False advertising that’s what it is, nowtv know a lot of people will be using there nowtv stick or smart box ps4 etc. I purchased my 4k Apple TV in 2018 so for 2 years I’ve used an app that is not upto date. Simply put it’s shocking treatment not only to people with Apple TV but other people using other devices. I notice nowtv operatesin Italy, Ireland and Uk. So if the app for Apple TV has been launched there why no update here. I tweeted nowtv over an hour ago and still no response. Email bbc watchdog or tweet them
Which account did you tweet?
I sent mine to "NowTV Help" and not the standard "NowTV" one.
They seem relatively active and I got a response as detailed earlier.
I think the more start to make a noise the better.
To those who wonder why us AppleTV owners are making a fuss... its because we have waited far too long.. and with the carrot being dangled months ago with the new app... AND the fact the new app is available elsewhere just not in the UK.
False advertising is basically correct. AppleTV users are getting a vastly inferior product to those on other platforms. Update the app, or ditch the platform. Dont advertise it as available when the user experience is so out of step with other devices.
I tweeted the normal one so now I will tweet the other one. Thanks.
I see one danger of pursuing this, they update the app and we all end up paying them money regularly for their passes.
lol
So no reply from nowtv twitter help that was over 3 hours ago I tweeted and a dm sent. This is what I mean about communication there isn’t any. I feel we could be waiting an eternity fo this updated app if at all. Can anyone advise me on picture quality of the nowtv 4k box and the nowtv stick. My brother just purchased the 4k smart box at a reduced price of 24.99 but he said the quality of picture was washed up and he has the boost too. He put his old black nowtv box in and the picture was a lot better. I feel if there’s no progress on nowtv Apple app I will look else where.
Hi
A couple of thoughts re. your last post.
Firstly.. be a bit more patient as im sure their social media people dont work 24 hours!... if you tweeted them mid-late afternoon I think its not unreasonable to expect a reply the following day.
Secondly... I purchased the NowTV box for £24 myself, as a stop-gap until the appleTV app arrived... and for the sole reason of taking advantage of the boost function. It must be noted that before I was using the boost function on the PS4 app... however using the app with a ps4 controller is horrendous so thats why I paid the £24 for the box.
That being said, im actually quite impressed by the picture quality. I have a 4K TV and just got rid of SkyQ... and I must say that NowTV is almost better than SkyQ was.... at the very least as good.
Im not sure why your brother seems unimpressed... perhaps theres a fault. its been good for me.
No reply still from nowtv help on Twitter not surprised at all.

We want to advise you that Apple TV is not on the radar at the minute an update is not available and we have no time frame on when it will be. When it is we will make all apple TV users aware.
Hmmm...
A non answer then as it already exists and is in use, just not in the UK.
Looks like they don’t want my money!
Firstly Nadine thank you for informing us about the situation that’s all we have wanted. Can I take it from that then that at some point say within the next few weeks that the app will be updated. If you can give a time frame even in weeks then I will hold on but if we’re talking months then I’ll just go and buy another device. But thank you Nadine for responding.

From that official, and very terse response, I'd say you're looking at months if not years for Apple TV, if ever at all. Surely no-one realistically was thinking it would be any different, what with the tests being pulled, and no update being done in over 4 years.
I'd heartily recommend a Roku Streaming Stick if you wish to stay with NowTV, but use your Apple for everything else as it's a much superior device.
Nadine's statement, "Apple TV is not on the radar at the minute, an update is not available and we have no time frame on when it will be" speaks volumes, and is clear for all to see that Apple TV does not factor into any of their plans for NowTV.

Well Guys
Nadine said, "...Apple TV is not on the radar...an update is not available...we have no time frame on when it will be."
All that equals, How long is a piece of string?
Give up, there's no hope.

PS. OK, there's a very faint glimmer.

Hey Rob
Glad your back, like your answer to this thread but mines pithier.
Only kiffing, still how are you doing, hope you're OK and that's all's right with the world (apart from storm Ciara - which I think is pronounced "see-air-ra", not the multiple ways the BBC are pronouncing it).
Thinking about having a beer.
Catch you later.

All I can take from nadines reply is that Apple at no time in the future are going to update the app in the store, this despite Ireland and Italy getting updated apps so the question why not uk. Is it down to technical problems or cost and if the appletv isn’t getting the update I’m assuming other devices won’t be. So I think anyone who’s got an Apple TV might as well delete the nowtv app because it ain’t gonna get better.
Blimey, that seems a bonkers decision. Guess it means I can run out my subscription and abandon the service though. At least it’s nice to know.
wow.
am i being stupid here... but I dont believe a word of that.
Fobbing off in the worst possible way.. i.e. from a position of complete ignorance.
There is an Apple TV updated app available and there is NO reason the UK cant have it. none whatsoever.
AppleTV not being on the radar is utter rubbish and at odds with the response I got on Twitter last week.... "soon".
If Nadine is right... then I would insist that NowTV publicly remove that as a supported platform and stop advertising it as available on the website... because the user experience on AppleTV is not acceptable and trading standards would be interested to hear of that.
I couldn’t agree more and if the nowtv Apple isn’t going to be updated or not on the radar to be update it should be removed from the store. As u say u was told Something different when you asked the question to nowtv on Twitter so some clarity is needed here. Maybe nadine could clarify the position. Here is the response I got from nowtv twitter.
Hello we have no word on this update yet sorry!.
@Anonymous User & The Apple Guys
Rob, sorry about misspelling "kidding", I completely missed the "d" and pressed "f" instead, I now hold my head in shame.
Apple Guys
Has anyone written to Apple asking why they have not updated their UK Roku app yet, especially as their Italian and Irish apps are up to date and porting them over is not technically difficult.
I don't know Jack about Apple and it's strategic plans, apart from making mountains of money, but I'm guessing that they are pouring all their efforts into boosting their streaming TV channel and probably ignoring everything else.
