LG TVs no longer support Now TV app!

Just had message from Now TV help to say as of yesterday (12th August)  the app is no longer supported by LG TVs. No notice. And have just bought my mum a new LG tv with Now Tv broadband as well. What is going on here?  Surely they can fix this. Or will cancel my subscriptions.

Perhaps the only way to improve the app to include 50fps relating to boost older models need to be unsupported?

Just a hunch. 🤔

FYI that I do not work for NOW, just a NOW customer trying to help

The usual reason for devices to become unsupported year by year, when there is no change of the TV OS or anything like that, is that the chipset used that year is no longer judged to give adequate performance with the latest version of the app.

Now tend to lead the field here, though whether because their app is the most technically demanding or not the most efficiently coded, I could not say. A bit of both, I think.

Certainly Now hasn’t run on the Gen 1 Amazon Firestick of about the same 2015 age for a few years now (if it ever did); and that is now showing its age with other apps as well, and is no longer enjoyable to use.

But 7 years is a good innings for an app on any device. And as Now say, any stick will keep it going. A 2012 Samsung I keep alive because it has 3D long ago lost even the BBC iPlayer, but a Gen 2 Amazon Firestick makes it smarter than it ever was out of the box.

Set a Payment PIN on your account so that no-one but you can buy memberships on it. Check your bank accounts monthly for any other unexpected payments to Now. That way you can at least nip them in the bud, while you and Now figure out whose fault they are.
