Complete novice question. Chromecasting

Hi there

Ive recently signed up to Now TV on my iPad and amazed myself by managing to chromecast using my Sony TV (technophobe).

The TV is model number KD-49X8305C and it linked to my TV using the chromecast icon in the top right hand corner of the iPad screen when using the app. I was delighted.

I tried to to use it again tonight and it simply won’t connect to the TV. I can see the chromecast icon searching and it displays the TVs model number but won’t make the final connection to cast onto the Tv. Can anyone advise as to why this would stop working after 2 nights of flawless watching?

thank you x

Re: Complete novice question. Chromecasting

Hi @Anonymous User

Hopefully nowtv forum members who cast from their phones or tablets will come to your rescue.

I don't use Chromecast myself for Video (only music with Spotify) so i won't be much help sorry.

What i would be inclined to try whilst waiting for further help from somebody, is maybe power down both your Router and TV for about a minute and then see if it works.

I suppose there is the possibility that either your iPad, NowTV App or Sony TV has had a software update and caused you the issue since ?

Re: Complete novice question. Chromecasting

Thanks for the reply. I’ve reset the router and powered everything down with no luck but the iPad has recently had an update so I’ll see if I can delve into it and find out what’s going on. If anyone is able to help with this, I’d appreciate it.

Re: Complete novice question. Chromecasting

Hi @Anonymous User

Are you casting from the NowTV website using a browser such has Chrome or via the NowTV App ?

I would try deleting the NowTV App and Chrome Cast App off your iPad and try re installing the Apps again.

Also, does the NowTV App on your iPad play without casting to your Sony TV ?

If so, maybe play first on your iPad then once the movie or TV show is playing on your iPad screen, then see if it will cast to your TV.

Re: Complete novice question. Chromecasting

Hi @Anonymous User

sorry to jump in here @schnapps  , but I do have a bit of experience with chromecast

as far as I'm aware NowTV only let you cast from a mobile device or tablet to either a chromecast/chromecast ultra or a Sony android TV, although I should point out that supports the casting to Sony android TV is somewhat unofficial below I have placed some extra useful information that is helpful when using chromecast with NowTV

Using chromecast on NowTV
before I go into how chromecast works on NowTV. Let me explain the ways in which chromecast can be handled by services that use device limits such as nowTV.

The most common way in which chromecast is handled is that the device which is used as the control device for the chromecast is registered as a device but the chromecast itself isn't registered. The major disadvantage to this method is that only a registered device can control the chromecast. Although just like the second method I am going to explain below you are still able to move the chromecast . This is not the method NowTV uses to handle the chromecast.

The less common way of handling chromecast is that the chromecast itself is registered as a device. The advantage of this is that it does not matter what device controls the chromecast. When you consider that a chromecast can easily be moved and will work on any piece of equipment that has HDMI input and supports HDCP. (I say equipment not Just screens because chromecast can be connected to AV receivers and then you have the AV receiver output to a TV).

So in a roundabout way, The less common method which by the way is the method NowTV uses to handle the chromecast allows you in to somewhat circumvent the device limit because you can very easily change the screen/equipment you are using for the chromecast without it affecting your devices because it is the chromecast itself that is registered as a device not the screen or equipment you're using with the chromecast, so you can move the chromecast around and as mentioned above with this method any device can be used to control the chromecast. So if used correctly. This method gives you a lot of freedom

The one really important thing to remember when using chromecast with NowTV is that if you do not want the control device for the chromecast to be registered as a device, you must first put the NowTV app on your tablet or phone into cast mode before you play any content. This will prevent your phone or tablet from being registered as a device and only the chromecast will be registered.

If you do not put the app into cast mode before playing content then your tablet or phone will be registered as a device and when you cast to the chromecast a second device slot will be used

Using the inbuilt chrome cast functionality on Sony android smart TV
it is apparently possible for you to use the chromecast functionality that is built into Sony android smart TVs with NowTV. In theory when you press the cast button in the NowTV app to put the app into cast mode your Sony android smart TV should appear in the list as a device you are able to cast to. Be aware, though, that just like an ordinary chromecast the TV will become registered as a device. Although the device will probably be identified in your device list as a chromecast

Be aware, though, that casting to Sony android TVs is not officially supported by now TV. So if you wish to cast content then it's best to get an ordinary chromecast. Otherwise if you run into problems. NowTV probably won't be able to help you much. Unfortunately

I do not work for Now . I am simply a Now customer trying to help I am a Community Contributor This means that I know a lot about the service. But just like you I am still a customer. This means I cannot help you with issues that would involve looking into your account directly. A member of the now TV forum team or live chat will need to assist you with these issues.

Re: Complete novice question. Chromecasting

@Padraic123 firstly, there's no live snooker until 1pm and you can watch every match live and free, on BBC iPlayer.

As for why Eurosport is on Sky and not Now, that's a question of rights deals. As I understand it, Eurosport have a deal with Amazon Prime Video as a paid for add on channel. You can also subscribe to Eurosport directly for £40 per year and watch all their channels via their own app on selected devices.

Padraic

In order to get an answer to your question you have to send it to the right people, not a customer led forum.  After all, how would  you expect other customer like yourself to answer questions about how a company runs itself?

So, rather than have speculative answers, you should email:

Now TV Customer Services Email.jpg

You might not get the answer you like but, at least, it will be officially "from the horse's mouth".
