Worst streaming system ever

The fact this subject is nothing new, is just emphasising how terrible this is.

 

Get some damned html5 or web based services already, browsing via an explorer like chrome/firefox/edge and then launching to a separate app? why...

 

This is not 1990, seriously sue whatever idiot you payed millions to for making this idiotic system.

 

The ONLY reason to have a desktop application alongside having to browse via en explorer is for spyware/data collection - which you can't really do anymore anyway... so fudge off and stop annoying your entire customers base.

Before someone chimes in with 'just use the store app'.

 

Do you realise the insane customer base of people using netflix/video services at work? When on night shifts etc... None of those can use Windows Store app which is why they ALL (but u) have an explorer based streaming system.

No problem; it’s good to talk about our big iron for a change.

 

So your users can watch Netflix and Amazon Video over their browsers OK, and even start up NowTV, but can’t download the Player because of UAC and your Group Policies?

 

Sky, in the person of NowTV, obviously feel that a browser doesn’t give their content adequate protection; if you look under the hood, they go to a lot of further trouble to add extra protection even round the Player app.

 

I’ve no idea why Amazon and Netflix feel their content is sufficiently protected in a browser, and NowTV don’t, though.

 

When you look at it, NowTV is quite a complicated thing for users, probably more complicated than Sky is; flexibility carries multiple choices, people don’t realise the rules, they are careless with accounts, and so on.

 

And it’s dead easy to get started with it, almost too easy; there ought to be a test of understanding first. But after that, if things go wrong, hoo boy; you can’t phone anyone, there’s just us or Live Chat, and we are doing semi-automatic redirect to Live Chat 90% of the time anyway.

 

And Live Chat, of course, if you can reach it, is a mechanism for timing out on people, with a small side order of practical help if you are very quick.

 

There are a few things NowTV could do to improve things; but rewriting the browser/player combination to allow a few civil servants to boondoggle may not be very high on that list 😈

Set a Payment PIN on your account so that no-one but you can buy memberships on it.
Check your bank accounts monthly for any other unexpected payments to Now.
That way you can at least nip them in the bud, while you and Now figure out whose fault they are.
