Hiya
I want to know if it is illegal to use a screenshot of a match for an article on my webiste ?

Solved! Go to Solution.
The banner is a bit different as you are using a potentially copyrighted image as part of your overall identity.
Take Wikipedia as a good example of what you can and can’t do. There are numerous images in Wikipedia that are used to contextualise the entry. This is all fair use. But Wikipedia has its own branding overall.
So Wikipedia can use the Arsenal crest within an article about Arsenal, but not as part of its own branding.

Hi @Anonymous User
Would have thought there would be some sort of copy right or permission required for this sort of request.
Maybe the NowTV T&C's covers your question ?
This is predominantly a customers forum, where you will be better off sending NowTV an email asking the question directly to them.
Use the email address from this screen shot below.
Thanks @schnapps
I was chatting to live chat and they sent me here, but i emailed that email anyways to see.
thanks
Depending on context it would be covered by fair use and not illegal. I doubt a screen shot could even be subject to copyright, in the same way a piano note in a song wouldn’t be. I don’t believe you will be prosecuted.
In its most general sense, a fair use is any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose, such as to comment upon, criticize, or parody a copyrighted work...
Thanks for that @SweetBlitz . It very tricky be sure of because my balls are on the line. hehe
Here is a classic example, its not my site, but a good example. There is the cover of the aricle and then inside the article various more images. Let image I got them from the match on the nowtv player. and use in this manner

Thoughts ?
It would not be illegal in that context as it is fair use. I even doubt there would be considered to be copyright. And even if there was, I can’t see why UEFA or BT Sport would be bothered.
And another example banner we may make for a article or many articles throughout a period of the season

Thoughts on that one, the two player half bodies would try get screenshots in match of them sometime throughout the match(very hard do obviously and maybe not as great quality but ok)

I understand how that banner could potentiall cause issues like you explained, that makes sense.
So to make banners like that, and remain safe, I would need to buy the image/licence.
Look at this one....

Lets say the obvious player at front was an illustrations and that faded out background (Screenshot from a match) was used like so. Are we satill in the same area here ?
Overall would you say even with the first banner, that its unlikily SkySports/NowTV would carefully go through there videos to find that frame I used and stick it to me and my website ?
And another example if you dont mind commenting on it

With all this the style of blog will just be your average arsenal blogger with adverts in the articles to try make some small revenue !
