Fab Fibre - no engineer required

I have just moved house and haven’t yet set up my broadband. I am interested in the NOWTV fab fibre package however, upon checkout it says that no one needs to visit to install & it can be done remotely. I am confused as to how this is the case. I am living in an old home and know there isn’t a fibre connection so would expect someone would have to come and install the cables etc. Any advise/ guidance would be appreciated

The key thing is whether the house has an existing, modern, telephone service; almost nobody has FTTP (fibre to the property) but rather FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) that green thing hopefully nearby. And from there to your house, the last bit is likely over copper wire.

Which may already be present; so all NowTV have to do is send you a router that you connect up when asked, and the rest of the service provision is made back at the exchange, or even further away.

But if/when you sign up with NowTV Broadband, the telephone access to the property will be checked by Openreach. And if a visit by them is necessary after all, NowTV will let you know that.

The same will be true for any ISP you might be considering, if they use BT’s network. As do all ISPs except Virgin and a few specialist providers.

Set a Payment PIN on your account so that no-one but you can buy memberships on it. Check your bank accounts monthly for any other unexpected payments to Now. That way you can at least nip them in the bud, while you and Now figure out whose fault they are.

Look at Wikipedia for VDSL2 (most likely) or G.fast (less likely).

As fibre is used somewhere in all telco networks, emphasis on the fibre is misleading.
