Difference between multicast and unicast

Hi there,

I'm just wondering what is the difference between multicast and unicast. Which is better and why? And which does now tv use

I have always assumed NOW TV to be distributed as a Unicast service, perhaps mitigated by Sky having multiple content delivery networks (CDNs) dotted around to avoid all connections being routed to one single source point?
