Does the now tv freeview box still work in 2022??

As well as it ever did.

 

I am told they are much sought after, though the lack of a numeric keypad would kill it for me.

Set a Payment PIN on your account so that no-one but you can buy memberships on it. Check your bank accounts monthly for any other unexpected payments to Now. That way you can at least nip them in the bud, while you and Now figure out whose fault they are.

Does the 1st gen smart box and the 2nd gen smart box the same power lead.

Nope they are different with regards to the voltage and the cable tip ends are different in size.
