@Anonymous User it's possible because I've got port forwarding enabled to my Raspberry Pi which is used as a VPN, but it's down right now so I can't view the router admin screens to see what settings/pages I used.

My first step is to force the device to have a static internal IP via Advance -> LAN IP Setup.
Then you need a Service (via Security) for the port you plan to use if it's not already listed. For my VPN it needs port 1194 on UDP, I set this as the start and finish port.
Then in Firewall Rules I added an Inbound IPv4 rule choosing the service I just created, action to Always Allow and Send to LAN user with the static IP I set at the beginning.
Now as long as my Pi is up and running I can access my home network whilst out and about.
