My now tv box cant connect to my local network

The light just comes up red when trying to connect and then fails. Is it a problem that its a virgin media router? I have the password right and it does connect to the router just not to the local network help.

Lots of people have experienced problems with Virgin Hubs
Others report that this will work :
Try pressing the HOME button on the remote 5 times followed by one press of FF,PLAY, REW, PLAY and finally FF.

You should now be in the hidden menu where you can scroll down to deselect 'enable network pings' box at bottom of screen.

Then move blue line down to Back and select - it should then connect and work ok with Virgin Superhub.

Have you tried switching your router on and off?

Hi Ian-Sweeney,

Thanks for getting in contact.

A quick router reset may resolve your problems. However if you still receive the same issue, try the "disable network ping" steps located above and let us know if it works.

Home. (x5)
Fast Forward.
Play.
Rewind.
Play.
Fast Forward.

If the above is done correctly, you’ll see a new screen pop up called ‘Platform Secret Screen’ which will display two green bars and four further options. Please select ‘Disable Network Pings’ from the list of available options.

Once you’ve done this, simply click back on your remote control until you reach the connection setup page, and attempt to connect to a network.

works a treat its so simple to do

Hi Phlomis,

Can you please set the wireless channel on your router to 6 or 1 and change the security type to wpa2 only?

Please let us know if that helps.

Kindest regards,

Ah, the joys of the HH2:(

Your best chance of overcoming any issues when connected to such a hub (I've owned 7+) is to hit the red recessed reset button on the rear of the hub for around 15 seconds until the lights go out completly. Then release the button. Allow the hub to reboot and try to connect again.

Before you do this, disconnect ALL the devices and reconnect the Now TV box first so that this is allocated the first IP address (192.168.1.64), then reconnect all other devices that connect via ethernet next and then finally wifi devices.

As an option, once they are connected you can carry out a power cycle of the hub (switch it off and on) as this should fool the hub and give the devices a static IP address (a bug that I brought up in 2009). Then change the DHCP lease time to 21 days - the latter helps prevent your devices from getting 'kick off' the hub.

What actually happens is that the hub becomes clogged and it needs a clean out. Here's not really the place to go in to much more detail, but you'd find a stack of stuff from me (old stuff as I quit there some time ago) and many others over on BT's forums.

That didn't work either.

Surprised and pleased at the same time - Well at least you can rule that out;), which IMHO could well of been the cause hence my initial reply.

How far is the box from the home hub?

If it's near enough touching the hub, give it at least 6 inches distance

If it's far away, try within 2 feet as a test.

Also, try setting the wireless encryption to just WPA2 and not the default of WPA and WPA2.

Any joy now?

If not, if you navigate to the home network page, can you see the Now TV box?

The nowtv box is about 16 feet from the BT hub. Neither the TV or BT hub can be moved closer and still connected. My iPad is sending this about five times that distance from the hub.
