Best replacement for Now TV box

Hello, I have a NOW TV black box (with the blue writing on top), with the television aerial plugged into the black.

What is the best replacement set-top box when this goes belly-up?

This is only for the spare room.

I understand with the NOW TV sticks you cannot pause/rewind live television, which is something that I want).

It's a fairly old television. Would I just be best to bite the bullet and buy a smart television? Or is there something cheap on the market around the price of a NOW TV box that does the same job (pause/rewind live tv, Netflix, on-demand apps for BBC etc. YouTube).

In my personal opinion the Amazon fire stick is a far better device than the NOW stick. 

As for pausing live TV the NOW stick most certainly does have this feature.

You can pause and rewind the live TV channels for up to 30 minutes with any of the NOW devices below: 

• NOW Smart Stick
• NOW Smart Box with 4K & Voice Search
• NOW Smart Box with Freeview
• NOW Box (black) 
• BT TV Box (rewind for up to 2 hours)

On all other devices, you can only pause or rewind on demand movies and shows.

Keep in mind
You can’t record whole shows or series on the live TV channels on any device, except via the programme guide on the BT TV Box if you pay for your membership through BT.
