Audio out help

I've just purchased one of the new 'Black' NowTV boxes, to replace my older white one.

I had the white one setup on my 2x Computer screens (which have HDMI ports but do not have speakers attached to them, nor do they have an audio out of any kind).

I was using the headphone jack on the NowTV box to output the audio to my Bose sound system - which worked just fine - and then the HDMI cable from the NowTV box to one of my Computer screens.

Now, after supposedly 'upgrading' to the new black box, there is no headphone jack for me to output the NowTV audio from.

There is a USB port, which would probably be fine if it actually worked, since I could connect via USB to my Bose sound system (I already do this from my PC to the Bose).

But... reading some other threads on these forums, the NowTV USB port is disabled . I read that it can be enabled by sideloading an app onto the box, however it would replace any other app I have sideloaded onto the box - in my case Plex Rarflix - which I really don't want to do (the main reason I want the box is so that I can use Plex).

So my question is - what good is this 'upgrade' to me if I can now only watch my NowTV but not actually hear anything?

If anyone has any suggestions for getting the audio from the NowTV box to my Bose sound system I'd be very grateful 🙂

Unfortunately, the now TV box isn't intended to support the kind of setup you describe as far as I'm aware there will be no way of outputting the sound through your sound system.

Now TV box is intended to be used with TVs and equipment such as AV receivers , which means there's only two ways of using audio out on the now TV black box

1. Connect the black box to your TV via HDMI and have the TV connected to an AV receiver or all in one system using (those things which are Blu-ray/DVD players and amplifiers) optical (digital audio out)
2. or have box connected directly to to an AV receiver using a HDMI input and have the AV receiver connected to the TV using HDMI out and switch to be an appropriate input on the TV

note you can't use HDMI audio return as I don't believe boxes have HDMI 1.4 compliant.

The NowTV black boxes are mainly intended for use with a television with a HDMI port utilizing their standard on board TV speakers.

Majority of modern TV's also have the option for audio out for people who wish to take advantage of their sound bars or AV Receiver.

Unfortunately like you said you have neither, which makes it practically difficult to get sound out of your Bose system.

I know you can buy from places like Amazon and Ebay a product called a HDMI audio extractor, but not sure if the device can pass the HDCP encryption of the NowTV box (unless a member on here who has used one can confirm that they work with a NowTV box) ?

Other than that (unless you want to spend more money) on up grading your computer screen with the additional audio out option, you might be stuck with the white NowTV box.

Hopefully, another forum member will come up with a suitable solution for you.

Again i can't guarantee that they work on the NowTV black box in your scenario, maybe PM the person who has used the device for their opinion ?
