problem with microsoft silverlight using Apple iMac

Hello to all at NOW TV, Please can you help? Everthing was working fine until last night. And then for some strange reason I can't access and watch any movies and/or programmes due to problems with microsoft silverlight. I've tried every solution in the help section and on the forum to no avail. I'm prompted with this message as shown below:

Sorry, you’re not quite ready yet...
You need to install or update Microsoft® Silverlight™ to watch NOW TV.

After installation, refresh this page or restart your web browser.

I can't watch a film on firefox or safari. What's going on please? I have done the 'always allow' and installed the new sliverlight plug-in.

I'm also getting a message saying 'infection blocked' from my anti virus as it things there's a suspicious .dll file trying to run, will we get a discount on our direct debit please as I can't use the service.

This is the error:

http://watch.nowtv.com/xap/2.1.5792.27600/player.xap

File: Overmirth.LiveTv.dll

What is this that is trying to run? Silverlight?

@Anonymous User what antivirus do you have? The overmirth.livetv.dll is used with Silverlight to play the video and has always been there and is also used with Sky Go.

I use avast....it's not been a problem for the past 3-4 months though...I'm confused as to why now?

@Anonymous User Avast is falsing flagging a file used alongside Silverlight.

I'd suggest whitelisting NOW TV

  1. Open the Avast user interface and go to ‘Settings‘ » ‘General
  2. Find the tab ‘EXCLUSIONS‘ and add specific websites or URLs in the ‘Urls‘ tab and enter *.nowtv.com/*

Hi @Anonymous User,

Just to rule it out....

Are you by chance using Avast anti-virus software for your Mac?

Thanks,

 Hi Rich,

I am currently using Avast, but the prolem started before I installed it. I've only been running it for about a week

Cheers

@Anonymous User there are two issues with Macs, the first is that you need to ensure that Silverlight can run within Safari as the most recent version now blocks be default. The second is Avast is then breaking NOW TV, I'd suggest whitelisting NOW TV. See my handy guide here.

Hi @Anonymous User I have Safari set to allow Silverlight to always allow. Also, from Avast, I don't get a virus pop-up when tring to play NowTV.

I did set NowTV in Avast, just in case.

Hi @Anonymous User,

Sorry to see this problem is still ongoing.

Thanks for providing us with the details on @Anonymous User requested.

I'm passing this along so we can try to recreate the problem. I'll get back to you here or via email once I get more information.

Thanks for your patience,

This worked!!

Safari, Preferences, Security, Plugin Settings, Tick Silverlight box on left side.

Wow this shouldn't be this hard but hey it works now!

Hi @Anonymous User

Thanks for your post.

Can you check your Safari Plug ins? Take a look at:

(Open Safari) Preferences> Security> Plugin Settings> Enable Silverlight.

Also make sure that www.nowtv.com is on the list of allowed websites. After that select Done and restart Safari.

Hi nowtv,

I have had this problem for weeks now and have tried everything suggested - like others have said, what is the point in me paying for this service if i cannot use it. i have tried to find direct contact details to customer services on the website but have found none.

Please resolve this issue!

Hi @Anonymous User,

Thanks for posting.

As you'vbe mentioned you've tried everything suggested but not gone into specifics I do need to ask some questions and make some suggestions, so apologies if you've tried these.

If you're having the issues in Safari, try giving Firefox a go if you havn't already.

You may also want to try the steps @Anonymous User has put together if you're using Avast on your mac, in the post just above.

Thanks

Is there a resolution to this problem in the near future? I used to watch on my iMac without any issues but this has been going on for weeks now....

I know that there's been a suggestion of using firefox but I only use Safari and don't wish to use a different browser, as Safari is the standard browser for mac's it should (and did) work fine.

@Anonymous User what have you tried so far? Have you allowed Silverlight to Always Run and added the NOW TV website to the list? And do you use Avast anti-virus? If so I'd suggest whitelisting NOW TV within Avast, see my handy guide here.

Thank you, amazing helpful and worked exactly as you said. I wasn't using Avast but the allowing Silvelight plugin instructions you provided did the trick.

The only question is why have NOW TV not pinned this fix to the top of their support forum? Silverlight seems to be the most common problem topic with the most posts..

Thanks again, now off to watch some walking dead....

Hello NowTV,

I would like to complain about the issue with sliverlight on Safari, I thought the issue would have been fixed by now since it's been over a month since the problem has started and nothing has been resolved. I have tired everything possible like uninstalling, deleting all files related to sliver, even downloading FireFox but even this browser buffers every second so you can't even watch what you want in peace. So I would like to know what you are going to offer since I'm paying for something that doesn't work correctly?

Many thanks,

Hi @Anonymous User,

Sorry to hear you're still not able to view NOW TV on Safari.

Can you please try the following:

  1. Choose Safari > Preferences
  2. Click the Security pane.
  3. Click Plug-in Settings to see plug-in details for a particular website.
  4. Internet plug-ins installed on your computer appear on the left side of the plug-ins sheet. Select the Silverlight plug-in to configure its website settings.
  5. Select the drop down option and choose Allow Always
  6. Then hit Done
  7. You may need to close Safari and reopen for the change to take affect

I hope that helps.

Thanks,

Rich
