Super bumper fun TV adverts fom childhood thread

@caseyb1993 @schnapps @ukbobboy and anyone else with an infantile sense of humour

So here it is, the super bumper fun TV adverts from childhood thread (blame Casey she started it with Rowntree's Fruit Pastilles .... the only thing you can really do with a Rowntree's Fruit Pastille is .... you know the rest!)

Nobody likes watching ads these days they just lack the smile, childish elegance of our rose-tinted youth (ie everything was naff but we thought it was fab at the time).

So regardless of age, share your favourite TV ads from your yoof. The funnier, wittier, or sing-along-addictive the better.

I've got SOOOO many to choose from, but here's a couple of my favourites to kick things off.

The Smash mashed potato alien robots from

And my all time favourite PG Tips chimp ad (I LOOOVE a good monkey ad), Mr Shifter the removal chimp ... All together now .... "Cooeeeeee Mr Shifter...."

PG Tips Mr Shifter another funny add from the 80s

Hi @Andy

Here are three TV adverts that came to mind straight away for me.

1 . The orginal Sugar Puffs advert with the Honey Monster from the seventies when i was a small kid, though the advert is not that funny i always had the Honey Monster catch phrase etched into my head "Tell them about the Honey Mummy" Smiley Very Happy

2. When smoking products were allowed to be advertised on the TV i always remembered the Hamlet Cigar ad with the man in the photo booth.

3. There was loads of Beer adverts that were quite funny at the time from various brands and the one that sticks in my mind is the Carling Black Label commercial with the Dam Busters movie.

Yes! Yes! And yes! I remember all of those, the cigar one was so funny!

Now heres one of my favourites, which has the added benefit of being a sing-along ad that you just can't get out of your head. My mum hated it as I was always pestering for Um Bongo at the supermarket, so this definitely did its job ... Plus it comes with the lyrics so even newbies can sing along

Way down deep in the middle of the Congo, A hippo took an apricot, a guava and a mango. He stuck it with the others, and he danced a dainty tango. The rhino said, "I know, we'll call it Um Bongo" Um Bongo, Um Bongo, They drink it in the Congo. The python picked the passion fruit, the marmoset the

I was trying to rattle my brain about some of the Heineken TV commercials with the Heineken catch phrase "Refreshes the parts what other beers can not reach"

Then i remembered one of the older classics Heineken ads about the Water in Majorca Smiley Very Happy

You have got to admit, some of these ideas that the advert companies come up with is so imaginative and ever so clever Smiley Very Happy

@schnapps Ah yes I remember the Majorca one very well. And whilst I was too young to drink I also remember the Hofmeister ad being a well imitated one at school .... Yeah, Follow the Bear!!!

Another classic beer ad from the 80s.

Blimey i haven't seen the Hofmeister brand in years been sold in pubs or supermarkets anywhere ?

Guess it disappeared without a trace, the cheap beer down our way was Albright bitter which also vanished from the pubs.

Yet another beer commercial from an old John Smiths Bitter advert with the dancing dog which i remember well when growing up Smiley Very Happy

They don't seem to make TV adverts like thay used to back in the good old days (so funny) Smiley Very Happy

You know something guys

You have both cleaned up on all the adverts I remember and I am now drawing a blank, I especially liked the Gorilla on drums/Phil Collins one (I have the 12" version of that song, always thought the single version was much too short).

Gotta put my thinking cap on to dig something up, I'll get back to you both.

Later.

Guys

This is the only enjoyable advert I can remember for the moment, I mainly like it because of the music.

PS. Music has great stereo effects, especially when listening on headphones.
