Don't follow rubgy in the slightest, but I know that BT carries rubgy as well as Sky.
This article suggests what you are looking for hasn't been picked up by a UK broadcaster.
Being a massive Rugby Union fan i have been following this for the last week or so to see if any UK Broadcaster will pick up the TV Rights.
From what i have read with snippets of information is that SANZARR organisation who control the Super Rugby Tournament's are disappointed that no UK or European Broadcaster is currently on board, that they are still in talks with a number of companies (assuming Sky might be one of them) where there is a glimmer of hope that somebody comes on board before the start of next week New Zealand Aoterroa round one competition.
If Sky doesn't pick up these rights next week, then after the British & Irish Lions games this summer i am done with Sky Sports who seem not to cater or are not interested in Rugby Union nowadays 😠.
There was rumours of Sky offering a dedicated Sky Sports Rugby channel, which they decided to drop when they pulled out of the bid for the English Rugby Premiership in the last couple of months.
It really is disappointing considering how much Sky charge for sports on TV and Now TV.
Yet unless is the English premiership football they genuinely don’t seem to care.
Much like TV where they only care about HBO shows to air same say as the US.
All the above for the TV which is why I’m done with Sky/Now TV for now
Even if Sky doesn't pick up the Broadcasting Rights i would prefer somebody like BT Sports to pick it up (should they be one of the companies still in talks) then at least you will have the opportunity to watch the games.
Where at the moment this is not possible in the UK & ROI (unless there is a way to stream it on an overseas broadcast feed by using a VPN or some other method which is a route that i don't want to go down).
I have been checking the internet regularly for any update about a UK Broadcaster for the Super Rugby in 2021 and haven't heard nothing.
What is a little worrying is that SANZARR who are the rights holder for the Super Rugby and Rugby Championship competitions haven't agreed broadcasting rights in quite a few World Wide territories (maybe they are demanding too much money and potential bidders think the price is excessive).
I noticed that Rugby Pass are offering live streams for UK customers and other territories (see this recent article which i found on the internet, plus there is a link to Rugby Pass website with streaming costs etc).
This delivery method doesn't interest me, because you can only watch the matches on a PC, smartphone and tablet (don't know if you can Chromecast or Airplay to a television screen because i have never used the Rugby Pass service before) and not even sure what the picture quality is like.
Based on the below information, i have a sneaky feeling that no UK Broadcaster will come on board for 2021 😠😠😠.
Hope i am wrong on this matter and somebody like Sky or BT Sports can come up with some last minute agreement.
The Rugby Pass prices only cover the NZ Aoterra matches.
Delving into the Rugby Pass streaming service in more detail, they do offer Airplay and Chromecasting to a television at a maximum picture quality of 720p (don't know if the frame rate is a poor 25fps / 30fps or a higher rate of 50/60fps and no idea how reliable their streams are over Airplay / Chromecast).
On another note, reading this internet article below today, it looks like a total mess to me, where RA (Rugby Australia) gave New Zealand Rugby their permission to go it alone with the Rugby Pass service streaming model for the Aoterroa competition.
Rugby Australia are still seeking a UK traditional broadcaster for their in house tournament, because they are not convinced on the Rugby Pass model with regards of the amount of revenue it will generate compared to a traditional fixed broadcast revenue agreement.
I am sure i read once the AU and Aoterroa competition ends in May 2021, there will be a further cross border competition between the AU & NZ region teams (assuming Covid-19 doesn't effect the competition) where Rugby Australia will have a say on the Broadcasting Rights.
This will also apply for the Rugby Championship later in the year.
So there may be a glimmer of hope that either Sky or BT Sports will hopefully pick up these other Southern Hemisphere Rugby Matches (lets hope 🙏).
Just been doing some more research about Rugby Pass streaming service and on their website they mentioned Chromecast & Airplay (where it looks like this feature was for other games).
Where according to this screen shot taken about the FAQ Aoterroa 2021 streams they mentioned Chromecast is not currently supported and they are looking into it (don't know if it's the same for Airplay).
If i can't watch it on a television then there is no chance i will be paying for a Rugby Pass 😠.
Latest news i can find from the internet.
My opinion is that Sky are not pumping any money into Super Rugby this year because they are going to throw a massive sum of money with a Six Nations bid around the corner.
Lets hope Sky and SANZAAR can come up with some sort of deal for the Southern Hemisphere Rugby Championship.
Not Super Rugby News, but it looks like Sky are the front runners for the broadcasting rights for the expanded Pro16 with the addition of the four South African teams.
Looks like the BBC are also serious about it and the BBC would be my preferred choice out of the two if i had my wish.
I am hoping it's not a Pay Per View Model has mentioned in the article and they mean it will be on a standard Sky Sports subscription service should the BBC lose the bid which is most likely where financially they can't compete with Sky.
Still not happy that there is no Super Rugby on Sky.
S4C have a 1 hour highlights show at 10pm on Sunday each week for NZ Aoterroa competition if anybody is intrested who can either access S4C live or use the S4C App.
Only used the S4C App where you can't select English Language and stuck with Welsh Commentary, where i believe on the live broadcast you can select English Commentary via either their red /blue button service which i am going to try out this Sunday at 10pm.
Enjoyed the highlights on S4C Sunday just gone, which is far better than watching a 5 or 6 minute clip on YouTube.
