Delay on streaming live sport

Why when streaming live sport via the Now TV app is there always a 60-90 second delay? Anything I can do to improve this? 

I have a 100GB broadband connection so it's not bandwidth or speed issues. 

I use the Now TV app via a firestick to watch PL games and I'm getting whatsapp messages of goals before I see them on screen. Such a poor user experience.

Unfortunately there is always a delay in live Sports events when the information is passed down the internet compared to over the air, radio or satellite transmissions.

BBC iPlayer is the same when comparing for example football on iPlayer to Freeview, where there is always a delay when watching on iPlayer and HD to UHD on iPlayer is even a longer delay from my experience.

You could try third party DNS servers instead of your ISP server to see if there is any speed improvement, but there will always be a delay when streaming over the internet.
