HDCP unauthorised

Hi All

 

I have had the box myself for a few weeks with no problem, and got one for my dad today, and set it up for him, i showed him navigation etc and everything seem ok

 

However when i got home he had texted to say the content wont play, with a message 'HDCP unauthorised'

I suggested unplugging everything, switching hdmi cable, and switching hdmi port, nothing worked

 

I think this is essentially a piracy protection? and the box clearly isnt communicating with the tv properly. The tv is quite old to be fair, but i cant get him to buy a new tv!. Is there a box i can put between the hdmi from the box and the tv perhaps to sort this out?

This can happen where the TV does not support HDCP this help article may help https://help.nowtv.com/article/purple-screen-no-picture-on-now-tv-box however if the TV is quite old then it may not be compatible but have a look and see if it helps 🙂

I have been successfully watching my now tv box on my Panasonic tv for over a year (when I got it! ) Including yesterday! And it's all fine but I switched on today and now I get HDCP unauthorised content disabled ! What's happened in 24 hours? ! I'm sure my tv hasn't suddenly got old! So previous comments don't seem to apply! HELP!

@Anonymous User Welcome to the forum. Shouldn't be anything to worry about it can happen to any device that connects via HDMI, basically the box and your TV aren't able to 'say hello' to each other properly.

It's a case of messing around with the HDMI cable and TV until it works .... Start off by unplugging both TV and box at the mains, unplugging both ends of the HDMI cable and reconnect, then plug box and TV back in and see if it works.

Many thanks! I unplugged hdmi both ends, then checked for a system update, it's now worked it's self out! Cheers!
