Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum. Great to see another sci-fi fan around! NOW TV stream in 720p HD on most devices now,  but there's no news on if or when this will be upped to 1080p HD. However streaming on my devices on the big screen, the quality is pretty good.

You would hope that the HD won’t be for the extra £5 that was hinted at on the sky sports survey, now tv customers already pay more than sky satellite subscribers for sport and HD is now standard on the sports channels for no extra charge.

With regards this possible HD surcharge that is coming, certainly the cheaper the better...... and if it is one surcharge to cover HD across all the various passes, the value will no doubt be better the more passes you run.  I only tend to use Entertainment, but if you're someone who runs them all a small surcharge to get HD across them all might be an easy choice to make???

Maybe just as the devices get newer, they deal a bit better with the poor picture........ as we hope, 1080p and 50fps can't come soon enough.... fingers crossed.

That sound description was perfect, like everyone was in a big metal room, Jamie Carragher sounded ill.  I even turned my stream off and back on to see if that helped, but the sound was poor all the way through.

Wolves v Everton tonight should be interesting....... two teams who weren't shy in buying new players over the summer.

Have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the Wolves v Everton clash this evening. Off in a minute to watch Match of the Day. I always set it to record then chase play it so I can ffwd past the punditry Smiley LOL

I watched it on the Premier League channel. I watched the 1st half on the Roku Stick+ and I would definitely say movement was much 'smoother' overall. The 2nd half I switched to the Smart Box where the motion issues were a little more obvious. From that I'd tentatively conclude that the issues could in some small way be down to individual devices?!?

You make a very good point re watching the game, and difference in quality, watching it on Sky One as opposed to the actual sports channels. I'd forgotten it was also on One or I'd have tested that out too, maybe next time Smiley Happy

BT Sports next, as you say, which sadly shows the difference in overall output quality between the two platforms. Might watch their evening game later.

The sound was terrible, especially early on, so much so at one point I backed out of the stream and rebooted my soundbar thinking it was a problem with my setup. It was like they were playing in a tin can Smiley LOL albeit a rather large tin can to get all those people squeezed in Smiley LOL

Just to pick-up on our Posts from a few weeks back and picture quality issues when watching Utd v Leicester on opening day of the season....... back then for me when the quality seemed not too bad when watching on Sky One, what would it have been like if I could have watched on the proper Sports channel, as I thought there might have been a difference.  Yesterday I got the chance to check when I used a free Sports Day Pass to watch Celtic v Rangers..... and some other Sports across the range of channels.

Most of my time yesterday was watching in my living room with Panasonic TV and older Black Now TV Box and as I guessed the Football motion pixellation was just as iffy as I remembered...... however, stuff like Golf, Cricket and F1 seemed better, for some reason a fast moving football is handled more poorly than a fast moving golf ball, cricket ball or F1 car????  Football watching was by no means 'unwatchable' it just wasn't that great either.  At points during the day I did also watch on my bedroom Samsung TV with newer Now TV Stick and things were much better, not 100%, but noticably better than what the old Black Box was producing.... a fast moving football was handled quite well...... just as good as a few weeks ago when I watched Utd v Leicester on Sky One via the Stick, so no noticable difference between the entertainment channel and sports channel as I wrongly thought there might have been.

Hence, as we all sit here in hopeful anticipation that 1080p and 50fps might be coming to Now TV soon, to give us that top-notch streamed sports quality, I think my best bet for now is to get another Now TV Stick for my living room set-up as that does seem much better at handling sports action compered to older kit????  I might then even be tempted to buy the odd Sports Day Pass rather than relying on the occasional Sky One game.

Thanks for the update. Looking better for you in the picture stakes. I'd agree with you 'upgrading' to the stick for your main telly. I do believe the better the device (or newer, does that equal better, I suppose it should) the better the results should be when viewing sport. Let us know how it goes for you if/when you purchase a stick Smiley Happy

As for 1080p, I'd gladly settle for 720p at 50fps as a compromise.

Hi Guys

My following remarks are not going to make any sense because it's nothing to do with picture quality or technical merits of newer devices over older ones but it is to do with a device's form factor.

I dislike the "stick" form factor, almost with an irrational passion. So much so that if this incarnation of an Internet TV streaming device was the only one available (ever) I would not buy it.

As you can imagine, I prefer the desktop form factor, something like the Roku 4 and its derivatives, e.g. Now TV's Smart Box.

I know it's crazy, especially as I don't want the Now TV's Smart Box, and the Roku 4 and it's upgraded descendants are not supported in the UK.

However, if Roku ever decided to release a new Internet streaming device based on the Roku 4 then I'll be in that queue waiting to buy one.

@ukbobboy Talking about boxes and different devices. I would love if we supported Android TV. My nVidia Shield would love it too.

Hey Tony

Isn't the "Shield" a somewhat specialised device and designed primarily for enthusiast?

It sure is @ukbobboy and it's amazing. Always up to date as Google roll out the updates to this first, before any other device. Tried sideloading the NOW TV App with no luck however i have managed to install the real Google Play Store so don't have to use the Android TV Modified Playstore. If you are looking for a top tier device then i would reccomend this. Also, i got mine late 2015 and the price has actually went up from what i paid. Insane. It uses an nvidia Tegra chip, the same chip that is used in the Nintendo Switch ( slighty modified for the Switch) so you can see where that power is coming from.
