Welcome to the new world of Grab’n’Go streaming 😢
Firstly, the content providers ask themselves ‘Why am I letting somebody else have a slice of my pie for streaming my content?’, decide to set up their own streaming service, do a Grab’n’Go on their content from whoever is currently streaming it, and put out their shingle in their own right.
Next we, who have been relatively happy with three or four subscriptions max, which we just let run, find there are about fourteen or fifteen streaming services now, carrying between them what we used to watch on our three or four, but wanting to charge the same for each small slice of the pie as we used to pay for our big slices.
So we have to drop our running subscriptions, engage with each service in turn based on the content they have that we want, and Grab’nGo a month here and a month there, cramming in all the good stuff they have into a month’s viewing.
Which is why the tentpole series, like Succession, now drop only weekly instead of all at once, and having a many-tentacled franchise like Teen Mom is a banker, and those without a great deal of content of their own, like Sky/Now, are starting to offer lock-ins, like a discount, but only if you commit to six months.
And the torrents are coming alive again… 😢
Set a Payment PIN on your account so that no-one but you can buy memberships on it. Check your bank accounts monthly for any other unexpected payments to Now. That way you can at least nip them in the bud, while you and Now figure out whose fault they are.
