I have sd only via the player on windows.

I am going to be honest, I was going to just grab a hbo max sub so i don't have to wait 24 hours to watch, game of thrones, house of the dragon or the last of us when they actually come out ((usa get it 24 hours before us)). 

Its actually showing HD on my sony tele via the app - Why is the player so bad?

The player on PC/laptop has never been able to do 1080p. God knows why, but it is restricted to only 720p, which is HD, just not full HD.
